Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is a brain-based condition — not a behavior choice, moral failing, or result of poor parenting.
1. Predominantly Inattentive (formerly ADD): difficulty focusing, forgetful, easily distracted. 2. Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive: excess movement, difficulty waiting, impulsive decisions. 3. Combined Presentation: both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.
Psalm 139:14 declares: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Children with ADHD are not broken — they are differently wired. Many show extraordinary creativity, empathy, energy, and lateral thinking. History’s innovators and world-changers frequently showed ADHD traits. Our job is to help them steward their unique design.
Behavioral therapy (especially parent training) is the evidence-based first-line treatment for children under 6. For school-age children: behavioral therapy plus medication (when appropriate) yields the best outcomes. Ikon Kids’ ADHD Support Program provides structured skills training, parent coaching, and faith-based affirmation.
Create consistent routines. Break tasks into small steps. Use visual schedules. Provide sensory movement breaks. Focus on strengths daily. Minimize environmental distractions. Pray over your child’s unique design regularly.
Seek evaluation if ADHD symptoms are causing significant impairment at school, home, or in relationships. A proper evaluation by a pediatric psychologist or psychiatrist is essential. Ikon Kids can provide referrals and supplemental support.
