Frequently Asked Questions

What constitutes a mental health crisis in a child?

A crisis includes: active suicidal ideation with or without plan, self-harming behavior, acute panic or psychotic episode, threatening harm to others, severe emotional dysregulation that cannot be managed at home, or acute trauma response.

What should I do if my child is in immediate danger?

Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. Call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). After immediate safety is established, contact Ikon Kids for follow-up support and ongoing care coordination.

How quickly can Ikon Kids respond?

Crisis support inquiries are prioritized. We aim to respond within 2 hours during business hours. For after-hours crises, 988 and local emergency services should be contacted first.

What is a safety plan?

A safety plan is a personalized document developed with your child and family identifying: warning signs, coping strategies, supportive contacts, and crisis resources. It is a critical tool for preventing escalation.

Does Ikon Kids provide inpatient or intensive outpatient services?

Ikon Kids coordinates referrals to inpatient and intensive outpatient programs but does not provide these levels of care directly. We serve as a navigator and support during and after transitions.

How is faith involved in crisis support?

Prayer, scripture, and pastoral support are offered as requested by the family. Faith is a powerful stabilizing resource during crisis — we make it available without pressure.
