Frequently Asked Questions

What are signs my teen may have depression?

Signs include persistent sadness or irritability, loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed, changes in sleep or appetite, withdrawal from friends, declining grades, fatigue, and expressions of hopelessness or worthlessness.

Is teen depression serious?

Yes. Depression is a real medical condition, not a phase. Untreated adolescent depression significantly increases risk of substance abuse, academic failure, and suicidal ideation. Early intervention is critical.

How does faith help with teen depression?

Faith provides meaning, community, hope for the future, and identity rooted in something beyond circumstances. Scripture, prayer, and Christian community are powerful protective factors against depression.

Can a depressed teen attend group therapy?

For mild to moderate depression, group therapy is highly effective and reduces isolation. For severe depression or active suicidal ideation, individual therapy is prioritized first.

What if my teen refuses help?

Teen resistance is common. Our counselors can coach parents on motivating reluctant teens. A brief, no-pressure meeting with a counselor can often break the ice.

Is there a crisis line if my teen is in danger?

Immediate crisis: Call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or 911. Ikon Kids also provides crisis support coordination. Never wait if your teen expresses suicidal thoughts.
