Respite Care for Parents

You Can’t Pour From an Empty Cup

✦ About This Program

Ikon Kids’ Respite Care Program gives parents and caregivers of children with mental health challenges a much-needed break. Frequently Asked Questions

What is respite care?

Respite care provides temporary relief for primary caregivers. At Ikon Kids, this means a scheduled break where your child is supervised in a safe, enriching environment while you rest, recharge, or attend a parent support session.

Who supervises the children during respite?

Trained Ikon Kids volunteers and staff, all background-checked and CPR-certified, supervise children in structured, age-appropriate activities during respite sessions.

What do parents do during respite?

We offer a simultaneous parent support group, quiet rest area, light refreshments, and optional devotional time. The goal is genuine rest and renewal — not more obligations.

How often does respite care happen?

Monthly respite events are scheduled in advance and published at ikonkids.org/our-events/. Additional respite opportunities may be available through our network of partner churches.

Is respite care free?

Yes. Respite care is provided at no cost to families, made possible through donor support. Registration is required as spaces are limited.

Can I use respite care for a child with autism or severe behavioral challenges?

Yes, with advance notice. We ask families to share relevant information about their child’s needs so we can ensure proper staffing and environment preparation. No child is excluded.
