Community Partnerships

Ikon Kids doesn’t work alone. We go deep with established Houston institutions to bring children’s mental health support directly into trusted neighborhood spaces.

The Power of Rooted Partnerships

One of the most effective strategies in community mental health is meeting families in places they already trust. Rather than asking families to come to a clinic or office, Ikon Kids brings faith-based mental health programming to established neighborhood institutions — organizations with decades of credibility and deep community roots.

Our partnership model creates a powerful three-way benefit: partner organizations gain access to high-quality children’s mental health programming at no cost; Ikon Kids gains access to families who might never otherwise seek mental health support; and most importantly, children and families receive the healing they need in a familiar, trusted environment.

Below are our two flagship Houston community partnerships. We are actively seeking additional partners across Harris County and beyond.

🤝 Santa Maria Hostel

Houston, TX — Partner since 2024 | Serving women & children since 1978

Santa Maria Hostel is one of Texas’ most respected residential treatment centers for women and their dependent children. Located in Houston’s Near Northside, Santa Maria provides a safe haven for women recovering from substance use disorders, offering residential treatment, transitional housing, and outpatient services across multiple Houston-area sites.

What makes Santa Maria exceptional — and what drew Ikon Kids to partnership — is their whole-family approach. Children who accompany their mothers in residential treatment need specialized mental health support that goes beyond what a treatment center can typically provide. That’s exactly the gap Ikon Kids fills.

Through our monthly RISE community events at Santa Maria, Ikon Kids brings children’s mental health workshops, parent coaching sessions, family counseling resources, and faith-integrated healing activities to some of Houston’s most vulnerable families. In April 2026, Ikon Kids was honored to receive the Jeanne Rutherford Norsworthy Founder Award at the RISE 2026 Luncheon — a recognition of our partnership impact.

📅 Monthly Ikon Kids Events at Santa Maria

  • Children’s Mental Health Workshops — age-appropriate emotional regulation activities, scripture-based anxiety tools
  • Parent Coaching Sessions — practical skills for mothers in recovery to support their children’s emotional health
  • Family Art & Expression Therapy — trauma-informed creative healing activities for children 3–17
  • Faith & Wellness Prayer Circles — community support groups for mothers and caregivers

🏡 Nabor House Community Center

Near Northside Houston, TX — Partner since 2025 | Serving the community since 1961

Nabor House is one of Houston’s oldest and most beloved community centers, anchoring the Near Northside neighborhood since 1961. Originally established to serve low-income and immigrant families, Nabor House has grown into a multi-generational community hub offering youth programs, senior services, family wellness resources, and civic programming for Houston’s most underserved residents.

Ikon Kids’ partnership with Nabor House centers on a unique and powerful program: Thursday Evening Music Wellness Nights. These free weekly gatherings bring children, youth, and families together for live music, rhythm-based healing activities, faith-based reflection, and community connection — all grounded in the growing evidence base for music therapy as a mental health intervention.

Music is a universal language that crosses cultural, linguistic, and economic barriers. In the Near Northside — one of Houston’s most diverse and historically underserved neighborhoods — Thursday nights at Nabor House have become a beacon. Families who might not identify as needing “mental health support” find healing, community, and hope through shared music and faith.

🎵 Thursday Evening Music Wellness Nights — Every Week

  • Live Music Performance — local faith-based artists, worship music, and community drumming circles
  • Rhythm Therapy for Children — guided percussion activities that develop emotional regulation and focus
  • Family Wellness Circles — facilitated small-group conversations on parenting, stress, and faith
  • Resource Connection Table — free access to Ikon Kids resources, counseling referrals, and community support information
  • Prayer & Faith Integration — closing worship and community prayer (all faiths welcome, Christian-based)
